AMES, Iowa – The Oklahoma women’s and men’s cross country teams earned 13th and 14th place at the NCAA Midwest Regional, held at the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames, Iowa, on Friday morning.

"They ran out of their minds today," OU associate head coach Kevin Ondrasek said of his teams. "People were making 30-40 point jumps from the previous year. The team totals don’t reflect the standards we hold ourselves to, and they know that, but we’ll celebrate the jumps in fitness where we can as we continue to climb and build. It’s a good time to be a Sooner."

The women’s side started OU’s day with a 13th place finish, posting 366 points in the 6K race. Seniors Sarah Scott and Belle Wallace paced the Sooners in team scoring, crossing the finish line 15th (20:34.1) and 16th (20:34.2), respectively. Both Wallace and Scott earned All-Region honors after finishing in the top 25.

Isabella Rose earned 33rd (21:01.2), Hayley Redwine placed 140th (22:10.0) and Morgan Long finished 162nd (22:23.5). Sophia Fernald and Elise Moore also competed for the Sooners, clocking in at 22:28.7 and 22:54.7, respectively.

In the men’s 10K, OU scored 396 points to finish 14th. Liam Meirow earned 33rd (29:53.9) in team scoring, followed by Brendan Taylor, who placed 41st (30:02.9). Zach Gentry took 95th (30:46.4), Andrew Doherty claimed 110th (31:01.3) and Ryan Teuscher finished 117th (31:06.7).

Rounding out OU’s competitors were Heath Warren (31:54.9) and Chris Staub (32:25.2).

The Sooners will learn their NCAA Championships fate when the field is announced on Saturday. Thirteen teams will earn at-large bids to join the 18 teams that automatically qualified on Friday. An additional 38 individuals will be selected, beginning with the top four finishers at each regional who are not on an advancing team joined by two at-large athletes.
