NORMAN — The Oklahoma men’s and women’s cross country teams will aim to qualify for the NCAA Championships on Friday at the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional, held at the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames, Iowa.

The regional is one of nine taking place on Friday, with other events taking place in Terre Haute, Ind. (Great Lakes Region); Bethlehem, Pa. (Mid-Atlantic Region); Logan, Utah (Mountain Region); Buffalo, N. Y. (Northeast Region); Tuscaloosa, Ala. (South Region); College Station, Texas (South Central Region); Charlottesville, Va. (Southeast Region); and Seattle, Wash. (West Region).

The top two teams from each region earn an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Championships, scheduled for Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky. An additional 13 teams will earn at-large bids to finalize the 31-team field for both the men’s and women’s championships.

After teams have been determined, 38 individuals are selected to compete for both championships. The top four finishers at each regional who are not on an advancing team are automatically selected, joined by two additional at-large athletes.

The Sooners head to the regional after the women took seventh and the men took eighth at the 2017 Big 12 Championship. OU was led by an All-Big 12 performance from senior Belle Wallace, who placed tenth with a career-best 6K time of 20:36.9.

Results from the NCAA Midwest Regional will be available on FloTrack and SoonerSports.com following the meet.
