Sooners Open Season at Michigan State Open

NORMAN — The Oklahoma wrestling team begins the 2017-18 season on Sunday at the Michigan State Open. The open tournament will take place at Jenison Fieldhouse in East Lansing, Mich.

The event features wrestlers from 25 collegiate teams as well as unattached individuals. The Sooners, who enter the season ranked No. 19 in the USA Today/NWCA Preseason Poll, will face wrestlers from six ranked teams at the tournament: No. 2 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan, No. 9 Illinios, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 17 Central Michigan and No. 18 Wisconsin.

Among the 13 wrestlers representing the Crimson and Cream on Sunday are four Sooners ranked by Intermat in No. 13 Davion Jeffries, No. 15 Mike Longo, No. 17 Yoanse Mejias and No. 20 Christian Moody.

Freshman Connor Webb (285 pounds) and redshirt freshmen Clay Vincent (133 pounds), Justin Thomas (157 pounds) and Jeremy Thomas (165 pounds) will be making their first appearance in the OU lineup at the tournament.
