NORMAN –The Oklahoma soccer team dropped its regular season finale, 3-0, to Texas Tech Friday night in Lubbock, Texas.
OU had already clinched its spot in the Big 12 Tournament and with the loss, the Sooners earned the No. 8 seed in the tournament. Depending on the outcome of games still in progress, the Sooners will face either Oklahoma State or West Virginia in the first round.
Tech took the lead in the 39th minute on a goal from Ally Griffin. On a breakaway play, Griffin went one-on-one with OU keeper McKinley Crone, slotting the ball inside the near post to give the Red Raiders the lead.
Cassie Conarty gave Tech a 2-0 lead on a shot across the 18-yard box, into the upper corner of the goal. The 77th minute saw Tech notch a third goal as Gwennie Puente took a point-blank shot from eight-yards out.
Tori Bowman had the best look of the night for Oklahoma in the 62nd minute. Bowman took a shot from 25-yards out, just missing a goal as her attempt cleared the crossbar.
The Red Raiders outshot the Sooners 15-4. Jordie Harr led all players with four shots, while Kyle Escobedo led the Sooners with a pair of attempts.
The Big 12 Tournament begins on Wednesday Nov. 1 in Kansas City, Mo. at Swope Soccer Village.
