NORMAN – Oklahoma men’s tennis’ Alex Bakshi and Ferran Calvo continued their run at the ITA Central Regionals by advancing to the singles quarterfinals with victories on Saturday.

Bakshi started the day by topping No. 7 seed and No. 83-ranked Felix Corwin, 6-2, 6-1, of Minnesota to advance to the quarterfinals. Bakshi will face Tulsa’s Majed on Sunday for a spot in the semifinal round.

"Today, we had a very solid day," OU head coach Nick Crowell said. "We had a great start with Alex taking down a really good player in Corwin from Minnesota. Alex got up early and never relinquished control and we liked how he stayed positive throughout his match."

Calvo earned his 20th win of the fall season, defeating No. 3 seed and No. 39-ranked Matic Spec of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-3. Calvo, who leads OU with a 20-1 singles record, will take on Oklahoma State’s Tristan Meraut in Sunday’s quarterfinals.

"Ferran came out today and was moving extremely well again today and also served very smart," Crowell added.

OU’s doubles tandem of Jochen Bertsch and Adrian Oetzbach also advanced to the semifinals, claiming two wins on Saturday. The pair started with an 8-3 victory over Nebraska's Toby Boyer and Linus Erhart to advance to the quartefinals. Bertsch/Oetzbach rolled past Wichita State’s Eddie Stoic and Marius Frosa, 8-4, to punch their ticket to Sunday's semifinals.

"It was great to see JB and Oetzbach win two matches today in doubles and continue to gain momentum," Crowelll said. "They are really ripping the ball and helping each other at the net."

Bertsch and Oetzbach will face Minnesota’s No. 55 Spec and Felix Corwin on Sunday in the doubles semifinals.

In other doubles action, OU's Calvo and Jake van Emburgh fell to Wichita State’s Andrea Caligiana and Miroslav Herzan, 8-3, in the round of 16.

Singles quarterfinals will begin action on Sunday, followed by the singles semifinals. Doubles semifinals will conclude the day.
