NORMAN – The Oklahoma soccer team will wrap up its home slate this weekend with matches against Kansas and Kansas State. Friday’s match against Kansas is set for a 7 p.m. CT start, with a pregame ceremony honoring the senior class. On Sunday, the Sooners and Wildcats will kick off at 1 p.m. CT for the annual “Kick for a Cure” pink game.
Madeline Brem, Tori Bowman, Kaitlyn Keith, Jordyn Knox, Lizzie Luallin and Rasha Roberts will all be honored before Friday’s game. The six members of the 2017 senior class have recorded a 36-33-13 record in the Crimson and Cream. They have been a part of two NCAA Tournament appearances and were all members of the 2016 team that won the first NCAA Tournament game in OU history. The six were also a part of the 2014 Big 12 Tournament runner-up team.
KICK FOR A CURE
The Sooners will host Kanas State on Sunday for the annual “Kick for a Cure” game for breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for the game and the first 300 fans will receive a pink t-shirt.
The Sooners played just one match last week, dropping a 2-0 decision to TCU last Friday. McKinley Crone tied her career high with 10 saves and now leads the Big 12 with 91 saves on the year.
With an overall record of 0-3-3 in conference play, the Sooners still have hope to make the Big 12 Championship. With three games left, the Sooners have a total of three points and are tied with Kansas State for eighth place. The top eight teams in the Big 12 advance to the conference tournament. OU is just one point behind Texas Tech, its final opponent of the 2017 season.
Two members of the 2017 squad are Kansas natives. Freshman Kacie Kinley hails from Shawnee, Kan., while senior Lizzie Luallin hails from Leawood, Kan.
AIMING FOR A BIG 12 WIN
Following a loss to TCU, Oklahoma is still on the hunt for its first conference win of the season this weekend. The Sooners have a 0-3-3 record in conference play with losses to Oklahoma State and West Virginia, and ties with Baylor, Texas and Iowa State
ON THE HORIZON: BIG 12 TOURNAMENT
The 2017 Big 12 Soccer Championship will take place Nov. 1, 3 and 5 in Kansas City, Mo. at Swope Soccer Village. The top eight teams in the conference advance to tournament play in hopes of claiming the conference postseason title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. All quarterfinal and semifinal round matches will be streamed live by the Big 12 Digital Network, while the championship match will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1. BREAK THE STREAK
The Sooners snapped a four-game losing skid on Sept. 29 with a draw against Baylor, but have yet to snap their winless streak. OU’s last win came on Sept. 10 at home against Illinois. The Sooners put together a string of draws, but had that streak snapped with a loss at West Virginia.
The Jayhawks are 7-7-2 overall, with a 2-3-1 conference record. Kanas is coming off a 1-1-0 weekend, that saw the Jayhawks hand Texas its first loss of the season. Kansas defeated the Longhorns on Friday, with a goal in the final ten minutes of play, before falling to Baylor, 1-0, on Sunday. The Jayhawks have recorded 21 goals this season, but also allowed 21 goals. Grace Hagan leads the team with five goals and four assists for 14 points on the season. Nine different players have scored a goal this season, with five recording at least two. In goal, Maddie Dobyns has recorded 54 saves in 1450 minutes.
The Wildcats are currently in their second season of play, and inaugural Big 12 season. Kansas State holds a 6-8-1 overall record and a 1-5-0 record in Big 12 play. The team has notched 14 goals on this season, while allowing 16 to opponents. Brookelynn Entz leads the team with three goals on the season, and 10 different players have contributed at least one goal. Hannah Davis leads the squad with four assists and eight points on the year. In goal, Miranda Larkin has played every minute, tallying 89 saves in 1377 minutes.
The Sooners will conclude the regular season at Texas Tech on Friday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. CT.
