Wesley Penberthy joined the Sooners in the fall of 2017 as a volunteer assistant coach, working with cross country and distance events.

Penberthy served as a volunteer assistant at Florida Southern College for the previous 7 months. During his time with the Mocs, he worked with the men’s and women’s distance team. 

Before he joined the Mocs, Penberthy was the head coach of cross country at Evangelical Christian School from the spring of 2013 to December of 2016. He was also the distance coach for the track team. During that time, he coached 7 individual state championships in the 400, 800, 1600 (twice), 3200 (twice), and 5k. He also lead the girls cross country team to the state meet for the first time ever including a 3rd place finish. He also was an assistant on a state runner up track team in 2014.

Penberthy grew up in Fort Myers, Fla., and attended high school at Evangelical Christian School. He competed for the Gillette College Pronghorns and obtained his degree in Sport Management.
