Jake Brydson joined the Sooners in the fall of 2017 as a volunteer assistant coach.
Before coming to OU, Brydson served as a coach at Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs, Utah, from 2014-2017. He is a U.S. Track and Field level 1 certified coach and a USTFCCCA Academy Jumping Event Specialist.
Brydson coached numerous athletes to the Utah 5A State Finals, including the 2015 Utah 5A State Champion in boys’ 110 meters hurdles and the 2017 state runner-up in girls’ pole vault. He also coached the current Utah 5A state record holder in girls’ pole vault in 2017.
Prior to his time at Westlake, Brydson competed at Utah Valley University from 2010-2013. During his collegiate career, Brydson was a Great West Conference Championship scorer in 19 events, including 12 top-6 finishes. He earned first place in the 2010 and 2012 indoor 4x400 meters relay and 2011 outdoor 4x400 meters relay at the conference championship.
Brydson’s 2011 4x400 relay group set a Great West Conference record. He also graduated with three school relay records, the indoor 4x400 meters, the outdoor 4x400 meters and the outdoor 4x400 meters.
