NORMAN – With a three-set win on Friday at the ITA All-American, Ferran Calvo is set for the tournament’s round of 16.

Calvo knocked off Tennessee’s 17th-ranked Timo Stodder, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, to advance and collect his 17th consecutive victory. Eight of those wins have come in Tulsa alone as Calvo worked his way to the main draw from the pre-qualifying bracket. The Valencia, Spain, native is the only qualifer to advance to the round of 16 in singles.

"My goal was to get through prequalies, qualies and win two matches in the main draw," Calvo said. "I'm very happy. As for the 17 in a row, in the beginning, I never imagined I would do this. I just keep going, match-by-match, taking one match at a time."

The junior trailed early, going down 4-1 before rallying to tie the set at 5-all. Calvo won the next two games to take the frame, 7-5, before Stodder took  the second, 6-3. Calvo made quick work of Stodder in the deciding set for a 6-3 victory to advance once more.

Calvo will face William Blumberg of North Carolina, the No. 4 seed in the draw, at 10 a.m. CT in Saturday's round of 16.

Spencer Papa cruised to a 6-1, 6-3, victory over USC’s Logan Smith to move on to the round of 16 in the consolation draw. Papa will take on Johannes Ingildsen of Florida next, with the match beginning after 1 p.m. CT Saturday.

In doubles action, Papa and Jake van Emburgh were defeated by Jose Garcia and Lucas Poullain of Florida State, 6-4, 6-4.
