TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma men's tennis junior Ferran Calvo kept his undefeated singles record intact and qualifed for the ITA All-American singles main draw Tuesday night with a thrilling three-set victory. With the victory, Calvo improved to 15-0 in singles during the fall season.

The junior took down Texas’ Leo Telles in the final round of the qualifying draw, winning 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6), to secure a spot in the main draw. Calvo will join OU's 16th-ranked Spencer Papa in the ITA All-American singles main draw, with action slated to begin Thursday.

Calvo dropped the first set to Telles before bouncing back to take the second frame. The last set came down to the wire, with Calvo and Telles trading games to force a tiebreaker. Telles took an early lead in the tiebreaker, going up 4-1 before Calvo closed the gap at 4-4. Telles went up 6-4 and looked to close out the match, but Calvo surged back to win the final four points.

In the opening round of the qualifying draw, Calvo took down North Florida’s No. 71 Jefta Kecic, 6-4, 7-5, on Monday. The junior defeated Benjamin Hannestad of Arizona State in round two, 6-4, 6-1, to begin play Tuesday morning.

Calvo's impressive run to the main bracket started in the pre-qualifying draw, where he won four straight matches to become one of 16 student-athletes to advance to the qualifying round.

Freshman Jake Van Emburgh fell just one win shy of making the singles main draw when he was defeated by Texas Tech’s Artem Kapshuk, 6-4, 7-6 (5), Tuesday night. The freshman knocked off Baylor’s Sven Lah, 6-4, 7-5, in the first round and beat Christian Lakoseljac from Penn State in a three-set match, winning 7-6 (3), 3-6, 7-6 (5), to play for a spot in the main draw.

Calvo will compete in the main doubles draw at the ITA All-American alongside Papa.

In other action, Alex Bakshi fell in the first round of the qualifying draw to South Carolina’s Thomas Mayronne, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.
