Sooners Open ITA All-American Saturday

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men’s hits the road Saturday for the 2017 ITA Men’s All-American Championships presented by Saint Francis Health System in Tulsa, Okla.

Jochen Bertsch, James Davis, Stefano Tsorotiotis, Mason Bridegan and Ferran Calvo  will open the tournament for the Sooners in the pre-qualifying draw.

Calvo enters the event following back-to-back tournaments wins at the Midland Invitational and the Alabama Four-in-the-Fall. The junior, who transferred to OU prior to the season, has yet to drop a match as Sooner.

Jake Van Emburgh and Alex Bakshi will play in the qualifying draw, beginning Oct. 2. In their last tournament appearances, Van Emburgh brought home the Alabama Four-in-the-Fall’s Houndstooth draw title, and Bakshi fell just one win shy of picking up a qualifying spot in the main draw at the Fountain Valley Futures event.

Spencer Papa was selected for the ITA All-American’s main draw, with play starting Oct. 5. The senior last played in the Tiburon Challenger pro event, where he advanced to the second round. Papa is ranked No. 16 in singles by the ITA.

Oetzbach Wraps Up Run at Fountain Valley

OU's Adrian Oetzbach finished his run at the Fountain Valley Futures tourament Thursday, falling to Michael Geerts, 6-4, 6-4, on Thursday. 

The sophomore claimed five matches at the event, winning four straight in the qualifer bracket to earn a main draw berth. The sophomore advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Alex Blumenberg, 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Wednesday in the first round.
