NORMAN –A goal in the 89th minute of play was the difference maker as the Oklahoma soccer team fell, 1-0, to Loyola Marymount Sunday evening.

“We showed great competitive spirit and leave disappointed having created enough chances and ultimately kicking ourselves again with less than two minutes to play,” head coach Matt Potter said. "The difference in the game was one moment taken by a player that only had one intention when given it: score.”

As the final minutes ticked off the clock, it looked as though the Sooners would head to overtime for the third time this season. After a shot by Kristina O’ Donnell went high, LMU regained possession and Sarina Bolden broke away from the OU defense, firing from five yards out. OU keeper McKinley Crone made a great attempt at saving the shot, but was unable to collect the ball.

OU had a strong first half, recording a 7-3 shot advantage. The Sooners controlled the momentum in the first 45 minutes, but could not convert any of their set-piece opportunities to find the back of the net.

The Sooners best look in the second half came off the foot of Tori Bowman in the 60th minute. Bowman fought past the LMU defense, launching a point-blank shot that the opposing keeper was just able to get a hand on to keep OU off the board.

Oklahoma held the 12-11 shot advantage with five on goal. Kaylee Dao led the way for the Sooners with four shots. O’Donnell, Bowman and Emma Ledbetter each recorded a pair.

The Sooners return home for a two-match weekend at John Crain Field. OU will face off against Baylor on Friday at 7 p.m. CT, and Texas on Sunday at noon CT.

“We go home looking forward to being at home and the opportunity to build in conference play with two great games in Baylor and Texas,” Potter said.
