NORMAN — The Oklahoma men’s and women’s cross country teams are back in action Saturday at the Ken Garland Invitational, hosted by the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.

“At the meet will be North Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor, so it should be a pretty condensed competition,” OU cross country associate coach Kevin Ondrasek said. “What we’re looking to gain on the men’s side is learning to run as a team and solidifying our pack. Our strength is going to be our [top] 1-5 and how close we can pack those guys together.

“On the women’s side, we’re trying to solidify our fifth runner, and we’re trying to also learn how to run a little bit more condensed," Ondrasek continued. "Right now, we’ve got a great 1-4 punch—we’re looking to see who’s going to step up and be that fifth man.”

The Sooners are coming off a strong showing at the season-opening Cowboy Duals on Sept. 1. The women’s team went 3-0 in dual competition and were paced by seniors Belle Wallace and Sarah Scott, who individually placed first and second, respectively.

The men’s team went 1-2 in the Cowboy Duals, led by redshirt junior Liam Meirow’s first-place finish. Behind his performance in the season opener, Meirow was named the Big 12 Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week on Sept. 5.

Results from the Ken Garland Invitational will be available on following the meet.
