NORMAN – The No. 3 Oklahoma men’s golf team earned its second consecutive top-five finish to begin the season, claiming the third place at the Gopher Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the par-71, 7,388-yard Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.

“We played a lot of golf over the last two days and this tournament presents a good challenge for us,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said after the round. “I thought we did a good job today of staying in the hunt for the lead, but we came up just a little short. It was good to see Brad, Blaine and Grant all finish in the top 10 as well.”

Arkansas claimed the team title with an overall 848 (-4), tying for the lowest team score in the event’s history. Baylor was the runner-up, one stroke ahead of the Sooners with an 858 (+6).

Hirschman posted a 73 (+2) in the final round to record back-to-back top-10 finishes to open the season.

Also tallying a 71 (E) in the final round was redshirt sophomore Quade Cummins. Cummins’ overall 225 (+12) tied for 61st overall.

Wallace turned in his best round of the tournament on Monday, shooting 73 (+1). The Gopher Individual was played at the par-72, 6,953-yard Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, Minn.
