NORMAN – Former University of Oklahoma golfer Anne-Catherine Tanguay (2010-14) earned her first victory on the Symetra Tour this past weekend at the Garden City Charity Classic in Garden City, Kan. Tanguay sunk three birdies in her final five holes at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course to finish the three-day event with a 5-under score of 211.

“I am so incredibly happy for my first win and am so thankful to have had the opportunity to play golf at Oklahoma,” said Tanguay. “This program has shaped me into the golfer and the person I am today. We played in very windy conditions this week and I felt right at home. Coach V has always pushed us to play hard and practice in these conditions and I can't thank her and the university enough for all my years at OU.”

Tanguay is the first Sooner that has played for OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell to earn a Symetra Tour victory. The Symetra Tour is known as "the Road to the LPGA" and is the LPGA’s official developmental tour.

“I’m very proud of AC,” said Drouin-Luttrell. “She was always a hard worker at Oklahoma and it’s been so rewarding to see her continue to develop her game as a professional. She’s continued to improve over the last few years and we can’t wait to see what’s next for her.”

With the win, Tanguay has put herself in great position to earn her LPGA Tour Card. The top 10 finishers on the Symetra Tour’s Volvik Race for the Card money list will play full-time on the 2018 LPGA Tour through category nine on the LPGA priority list. With four tournaments remaining, Tanguay ranks fifth on the Symetra Tour earnings list with $70,995 in winnings. For perspective, No. 10 on the money list in 2016 earned $67,577.

A native of Quebec City, Quebec, Tanguay was one of Drouin-Luttrell’s first recruits at Oklahoma and joined the Sooners in Drouin-Luttrell’s second season at the helm of the program (2010-11). Tanguay was an NGCA All-American in 2014 and was selected to the All-Big 12 Team in 2013 and 2014. She ranks third in program history in both career scoring average (74.09) and par-or-better rounds (38).

Tanguay was a crucial member in some of the best team seasons in OU history. The Sooners finished in the top 10 of the NCAA Championships in each of her last three seasons at Oklahoma, including a program-record fourth-place finish during her senior season (2014). Tanguay won team Big 12 titles with the Sooners in 2012 and 2014.
