NORMAN Oklahoma redshirt junior Liam Meirow was named the Big 12 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The honor marks the first time a Sooner has earned a weekly cross country conference award since 2015.

Meirow, a native of Dillon, Colo., opened the 2017 season on a high note, placing first individually at the Cowboy Duals last Friday. He clocked in at 15:26.5 in the men's 5K, crossing the finish line 5.2 seconds before the runner-up. His time marked improvement over his 5K time last season, 15:59.3 at the 2016 Cowboy Duals.

The 2017 event, held at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla., saw the Sooners race against USTFCAAA Preseason No. 4 Arkansas, No. 10 Oklahoma State and No. 20 Tulsa.

Cailie Logue of Iowa State and Destiny Collins of Texas shared Women's Runner of the Week honors.

The Sooners return to action on Sept. 16 for the Ken Garland Invitational in Denton, Texas.
