NORMAN – The No. 3 Oklahoma men’s golf team heads into the final round of the Carmel Cup tied for third place. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the iconic par-72, 6,828-yard Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
For the second straight day, the Sooners fired a 350 (-10) as a team and sit in a tie for third with Vanderbilt at 700 (-20). Each team in the event is competing with six golfers, and the low five scores count toward the team total each round.
Garett Reband matched his career-low round by carding a team-best 67 (-5) during Saturday’s second round. Reband heads into Sunday’s final round tied for fourth at 135 (-7). The sophomore carded six birdies during his round and his 67 tied his best collegiate round from the Prestige at PGA WEST last season.
“I was really proud of how Garett played,” head coach Ryan Hybl said. “He continued to play really well for us. As a team, we struggled on some of the easier holes early and that held us back. We’ll look to finish strong as we head to Sunday.”
Grant Hirschman is tied for 10th at 137 (-7) through 36 holes as the senior pocketed five birdies during the second round. Brad Dalke shot 73 (+1), but is tied for 15th at 140 (-4) through 36 holes.
Riley Casey posted a 69 (-3) for the Sooners and sits in a tie for 21st at 141 (-3). Casey’s 69 is tied for his second-best round at OU and the sophomore eagled No. 18 to finish his day. Blaine Hale showed improvement in the second round, recording a 73 (+1). Hale is tied for 34th at 147 (+3) for the tournament.
Rylee Reinertson is 46th at 157 (+13) going into Sunday after posting a 76 (+4).
The final round of the Carmel Cup is scheduled for Saturday morning and the Sooners will tee off at 10:10 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
