Fans Invited to Championship Celebration

NORMAN  Oklahoma women’s gymnastics fans are invited to the Sooners’ 2017 NCAA Championship Celebration on Friday, Sept. 1, at Lloyd Noble Center.

The championship celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers, social hour and live music, as well as an auction. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m.

During the evening, Sooner fans will have the opportunity to hear head coach K.J. Kindler and members of the 2017 national championship team describe the emotion of winning the program’s third NCAA title in the last four years.

To register for the event, which costs $50, email Candace Blackerby ( by Aug. 25. Payment for the event is cash or check made out to TEAM 10. Mail payment to: Candace Blackerby, 180 W. Brooks Street, Norman, OK, 73019. Credit card payments may also be made over the phone by calling the OU women’s gymnastics’ office at (405) 325-5740.

Oklahoma’s historic season was capped off in thrilling fashion as the Sooners claimed their second consecutive national title and third in the last four years. They posted a 198.3875 in the Super Six, setting an NCAA record for team score at the event.

OU’s dominant postseason performance helped the Sooners complete 2017 with a 33-0-0 record. Nicole Lehrmann (bars) and Maggie Nichols (bars) were named individual co-national champions at the Super Six, as five Sooners earned 12 All-America honors. OU also picked up its unprecedented sixth straight Big 12 title and eighth consecutive NCAA Regional crown.
