ATHENS, Ga. – Junior Lily Miyazaki's season came to an end Wednesday with a loss to LSU's Joana Valle Costa in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships.

Valle Costa defeated Miyazaki, 6-3, 6-2, in a match that saw several delays for inclement weather. The junior finishes the season at 13-6 overall.

“I'm so proud of Lily for her effort this year,” said head coach Audra Cohen. “She made it in to the main draw of our three premiere tournaments: All-Americans, National Indoors and NCAAs. While she didn't play her best today, that doesn't take away from how much she's grown this year.”

Miyazaki's individual tournament appearance was the Sooners' first since Anda Perianu represented Oklahoma at the NCAA singles championships in 2004.

Miyazaki was named the 2017 ITA Central Region Player to Watch in addition to earning a spot on the All-Big 12 singles first team.  The junior was the recipient of Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team for her achievements in the classroom.

The Sooners will return to action in the fall. The tournament schedule is yet to be released. For updates, follow @OU_WTennis on Twitter.
