NORMAN – The No. 25 Oklahoma women's golf team is in seventh place after the first 18 holes of the NCAA Lubbock Regional. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par -72, 6,593-yard Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.

The Sooners, who are competing as the No. 6 seed, carded a 299 (+11) on Monday and are just one stroke off the coveted sixth place to advance to the NCAA Championships. No. 2 Arizona State sits atop the team leaderboard at 293 (+5) followed by No.12 Oregon currently sitting in second place at 294 (+6).  No. 9 Texas Tech holds third place at 296 (+8), and No.1 UCLA and No. 7 BYU are tied for fourth place at 297 (+9).

Julienne Soo paces OU after firing a 72 (E) in the first round to hold a share of seventh place out of 95 competitors. Soo started off the day strong after sinking back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. The sophomore carded a total of five birdies on the day.

Junior Hannah Wood shot a 75 (+3) and is tied for 26th place after recording three birdies on the back nine.

Valerie Tanguay and Rylee Pedigo both shot a 76 (+4) in the opening round and share 36th place. The pair registered two birdies each in Monday's round.

Classmate Ana Ruiz struggled in the first round, shooting a 79 (+7). She holds a piece of 69th place.

“We play solid on the back nine today,” said head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We made some big numbers early in the round but kept it going. The conditions were tough but it nothing we're not used to playing in. We closed strong and should have some confidence going into round two.”

The Sooners will tee off Tuesday at 8 a.m. CT for the second round of the regional. Live scoring of the tournament can be found at Golfstat.com.
