Sooners Begin Postseason at Big 12 Championship

NORMAN –The No. 20 University of Oklahoma women’s golf team returns to the course this weekend in San Antonio, Texas, to begin postseason at the 2017 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship. The nine-team tournament will be contested Friday-Sunday, April 21-23, at the par-72, 6,263-yard Dominion Country Club.

Oklahoma is coming off a big win against then-No. 19 Oklahoma State in the Bedlam Cup match-play event. The Sooners topped the Cowgirls 8.5-5.5 last Saturday. All six Sooners recorded at least one win during the two-round event.

“We are really excited to get the postseason started this weekend, “OU Head Coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “Everyone has been putting a lot of time and effort into their games, and after what I saw from the girls on Saturday we are excited to get started.”

The Sooners are the No. 3 seed in the championship and will tee off on Friday at 8 a.m. with top-seed Baylor and No. 2 Oklahoma State.

Ana Ruiz, Junior: Dominated afternoon match winning 8&7 in the Bedlam Cup match-play… Finished in share of fifth place out of 94 competitors at the Clemson Invitational (211; -5)… played all three sessions at par or better at the Clemson Invitational… Tied for eighth place after pocketing seven birdies in the final round of The Clover Cup (214; -2).

Julienne Soo, Sophomore:  Ranked 43rd in the nation by Golfweek… Overcame a 2-down deficit after 12 holes and halved her matchup in the afternoon match in the Bedlam Cup… Tied for 27th place with an overall score of 219 (+3) at the Clemson Invitational… Clinched first place at The Clover Cup shooting under par in all three round… Fired a program-best 54-hole score of 203 (-13) at The Clover Cup. 

Hannah Wood, Junior: Won afternoon match, +2, in Bedlam match-play… Recorded a 219 (+3) to tie for 27th place at the Clemson Invitational… Shot a 69 (+3) in the second round of the Clemson Invitational… Finished in share of 26th place at 221 (+5) at The Clover Cup.

Valerie Tanguay, Junior: Collected two afternoon match wins in the Bedlam Cup… Tied for 41st  place for the Sooners (223;+7) at the Clemson Invitational… Shot a 219 (+3) to tie for 16thplace The Clover Cup… Carded a 73 (+1) in all three round of play at The Clover Cup.

Rylee Pedigo, Junior: Coming off an afternoon match win 2&1 in the Bedlam Cup… Finished the Clemson Invitation in share of 88th place at 238 (+22)… Tied for 34th place at The Clover Cup (223; +)… Registered six birdies in the third and final round of The Clover Cup. 


The par-72, 6,263-yard Dominion Country Club will serve as the host site for the 2017 Women’s Golf Big 12 Championship. 


Teams will compete in 54 holes of stroke play over three days (18 holes Friday, Saturday and Sunday).


Friday: High of 88 degrees with S winds at 12 mph and a 20 percent chance of rain.

Saturday: High of 69 degrees with N-NE winds at 18 mph and a 50 percent chance of rain.

Sunday: High of 76 degrees with N winds at 12 mph.
