NORMAN — While it is an off week from competition for most of the University of Oklahoma track and field student-athletes, two Sooners will be running in the 59th Annual Mt. SAC Relays Thursday.
Junior Eric Alldritt and senior Brittany Tretbar will be competing in the 10,000-meter races at Murdock Stadium on the campus of El Camino College in Torrance, Calif.
Alldritt will be running in the Collegiate Open race at 8:40 p.m. CT, while Tretbar will be in the Invitational Elite race at 10:30 p.m.
The Mt. SAC Relays are known as “Where The World’s Best Athletes Compete!” and feature top teams and athletes in track and field.
Much like the Stanford Invitational was, this week’s meet will provide an opportunity for Alldritt and Tretbar to record a time in an event that is seldom run during the season.
“We want everyone to have an opportunity to do their event before the conference championship,” says head coach Jim VanHootegem. “Makayla (Stephens) and Stephen (Jazdyk) had the opportunity to do combined events at the Texas Relays, and some of our distance athletes went to the Stanford Invitational.
"On our normal schedule, there is not a 10,000-meter race. We are looking for opportunities for those people to have a chance to get a good result and a good performance. They also get a chance to go through some learning experiences prior to Big 12s.”
Results will be available at http://www.mtsacrelays.com/results.html. FloTrack will be streaming the races, but will require a subscription. A recap will be available at the end of the night on Soonersports.com.
