OKLAHOMA CITY – The OU women’s rowing team shined in front of a home crowd on Saturday morning as it hosted No. 5 Texas, Kansas and Kansas State for the Big 12 Double Dual on the Oklahoma River.

The Sooners raced five boats in two sessions of duals against both Kansas and Kansas State, including one boat in each of the NCAA events (1V8, 2V8 and 1V4), as well as a 2V4 and 3V8.

The Sooners were perfect in their first dual of the day against Kansas. The Oklahoma 1V8 bested the KU boat in heat one with a time of 7:19.302. The second varsity eight also won their first heat of the day with a victory over KU’s 2V8 in 7:26.560. In the fours events, the Sooners’ 1V4 boat beat KU, finishing in 7:11.29, while the 2V4 also got the win with a time of 8:35.709. The OU 3V8 got their first victory of the day beating the Jayhawks with a time of 8:01.861.

In the second portion of racing, the Sooners matched up with Kansas State. The first varsity eight took first in its race against the Wildcats, crossing the line with a time of 7:29.207, while the 2V8 also earned the victory over K-State, finishing its race in 7:46.878. The Sooners’ first varsity four won its race against the Wildcats, crossing the finish line in 8:12.500, and OU’s 2V4 topped the Wildcats with a time of 8:41.380. In the last race of the day, the Sooners were handed their only defeat of the regatta with the 3V8 falling in a tough race against K-State.

“The team raced well in some very challenging conditions,” OU head coach Leeanne Crain said. "I think everyone learned a lot today, and we’ll be better prepared for any adversity thrown our way this season. Thanks to Texas, Kansas and Kansas State for some great racing.”

The Sooners return to the water April 22-23 in Clemson, S.C., for the Clemson Invitational. Full results from the Big 12 Double Dual are available on
