NORMAN — The No. 22 Oklahoma women’s golf team claimed sixth place at the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, S.C. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the par-72, 6,253-yard Reserve Golf Club at Lake Keowee.

In the third and final round, the Sooners recorded a 291 (+3) to end the weekend with an overall 872 (+8).

With a three-round 854 (-10), No. 4 Florida State won the title against a 17-team field that featured five squads ranked in the top 25 of the GolfStat rankings. No. 5 Florida finished in second place (856; -8) followed by No. 8 Furman in third place (857; -7).

Ana Ruiz was OU’s best finisher, earning a share of fifth place out of 94 competitors. The junior had a career-best three-round score of 211 (-5), pocketing four birdies and playing a bogey-free back nine. Ruiz shot a 71 (-1) in Sunday’s round and played all three sessions at par or better.

Sophomore Julienne Soo and junior Hannah Wood both tied for 27th place with an overall score of 219 (+3). Soo shot a 71 (-1) and Wood carded a 76 (+4) in the final round of play.

Valerie Tanguay tied for 41st place for the Sooners (223; +7), registering a 73 (+1). Teammate Rylee Pedigo finished the tournament in share of 88th place (238; +22). The junior shot a 78 (+6) in the third and final round.

“We definitely have some work to do to prepare for the next tournament,” OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “We played much better the last two days, which helped. Ana had a great week. She’s been working really hard and it’s great to see it pay off for her. We’re entering the postseason and have some momentum headed toward that time of year.”

The Sooners return to action April 15th for the Bedlam Cup, marking the last regular-season action of the year. The match-play event will be played at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman.
