Sooners Secure Four Wins at Longhorn Invite

AUSTIN, Texas – The OU women’s rowing team opened its spring season Saturday at the Longhorn Invitational. The regatta took place on the 2,000-meter course on Walter E. Long Lake. 

Hosted by the University of Texas, the invitational featured eight schools competing in two sessions of racing. The Sooners raced five boats in five events in both the morning and afternoon sessions, including one in each of the NCAA events (1V8, 2V8 and 1V4), as well as a 2V4 and 3V8. Among the competition were ranked squads No. 8 Texas and No. 14 Duke. The University of San Diego, Iowa and Notre Dame are also receiving votes. 

In the morning session, the Sooners’ 1V8 crossed the line fourth with a time of 6:19.62. The 2V8 and 3V8 both finished in third place, crossing the line in 6:29.43 and 6:58.28, respectively. The Oklahoma 1V4 boat finished third in the morning session with a time of 7:11.29. The second varsity four came across the line in 7:19.32 to place third in its heat. 

In the 3V8 B Final, the Sooners’ third varsity eight topped Central Florida to take first with a time of 7:03.12. Also in the afternoon session, the OU 2V4 boat took first in the B Final, crossing the line in 7:26.79. The OU 1V4 claimed first in the 1V4 B Final with a time of 7:19.98. Concluding the regatta, the OU 2V8 finished the B Final in 6:31.47 to place second. The Sooners’ first varsity eight finished the second session of racing with a first place finish in the 1V8 B Final with a time of 6:15.38. 

The Sooners return to the water April 8 in Oklahoma City for the Big 12/Big Ten Double Dual.
