They were the only competitors in action for OU on Friday, but each was able to get the job done. Burge led off the meet at Maverick Stadium with a sixth-place finish, fifth among college athletes, throwing a 140-11 in her sixth and final throw. Burge opened with a foul, then recorded a 131-11. She had three more fouls before her second, and placing, legal attempt.
Nguyen picked up something from Burge as he threw 202-6.00 on his final throw to win the competition. Nguyen had three legal throws with two fouls before his winning effort. In addition to winning the meet title, Nguyen improved his career best by nearly 8 inches.
