NORMAN – The Oklahoma men’s tennis team capped off its run at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge presented by Oracle on Sunday evening, falling to Cal 4-1 in the third-place match in Indian Wells, Calif.
The Sooners, who entered the day 12-5 on the season, defeated Tulsa 4-3 on Thursday and were defeated by No. 7 USC on Saturday to find themselves in the third-place match of the prestigious event. Oklahoma, ranked No. 9, defeated Pepperdine 4-3 on Tuesday in Malibu, Calif.
The No. 1-seed Golden Bears opened the evening by taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, while OU earned the win at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
Cal then took No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, with Sooners senior Alex Ghilea earning a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles in between.
OU returns to action on Friday, March 31, to face Texas at 6 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Big 12 play will continue for coach head coach Nick Crowell and his squad on Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m. as they will take on TCU.
