NORMAN – After two rounds of The Clover Cup, the No. 24 Oklahoma women’s golf team holds fourth place. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
The Sooners posted a 285 (-3) in Saturday’s second round to bring their 36-hole total to 567 (-9). No. 4 Arizona State is in first place at 556 (-20) after recording a 275 (-13) in the second round. Houston holds second place (562; -14) followed by No. 3 Florida State in third place with a score of 563 (-13). Oklahoma sits in fourth place and TCU in fifth place at 579 (+3).
Julienne Soo leads the Sooners for the second day in a row, sitting in first place out of 84 competitors with an overall 132 (-12). Soo totaled a 66 (-6), a career-best. She fired four birdies on the front nine and three birdies on the back.
Ana Ruiz ended the day recording a 73 (+1), posting three birdies on the day. The junior is tied for 14th place at 143 (-1).
Junior Valerie Tanguay carded a 73 (+1) and is tied for 24th place (146; +2).Tanguay registered two birdies on the eighth and 15th holes.
Hannah Wood joined teammates Ruiz and Tanguay in recording a 73 (+1), after sinking four birdies on the day. Wood is in a share of 41st place and holds a two-round score of 150 (+6).
Classmate Rylee Pedigo struggled Saturday, carding a 79 (+7). She holds a piece of 48th place with a 152 (+8).
“We got off to a slow start as a team, but we fought hard and never gave up,” said head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “I’m really proud of the way they trusted and stuck to their game plan.”
