NORMAN – Oklahoma women’s basketball will make its 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The 22-9 Sooners were selected Monday as the No. 6 seed in the tournament’s Oklahoma City Regional and will take on No. 11 seed on Gonzaga in Seattle, Wash., Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

If OU wins its first-round game, the Sooners will take on No. 3 seed Washington or No. 14 seed Montana State on Monday inside Alaska Airlines Arena.

Oklahoma’s streak of 18straight NCAA Tournament appearances ranks as the longest active streak in the Big 12 and the fifth-best active streak among Division I teams. The berth mark OU’s 20th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

“It never gets old having the opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament,” OU head coach Sherri Coale said. “We have two potentially tough games ahead of us. Gonzaga is a very good team and we have some experience playing Washington during the last two seasons. It’s exciting to see our name called and we’re ready for the challenge ahead.”

The Sooners, who finished third in the Big 12 with a mark of 13-5 in league play, are 6-4 as a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

No. 11 seed Gonzaga is making its seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and finished the regular season with a 26-6 overall record. The Zags enter the NCAA Tournament after winning their seventh West Coast Conference Tournament Championship last week.

Oklahoma has never faced Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament, but won the only meeting between the two teams, 82-78, in Norman on Nov. 13, 2014.

OU is 32-19 (.627) all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 30-17 in the Coale era. The Sooners have made three Final Four appearances (2002, 2009 and 2010) along with 10 Sweet 16 appearances in program history.

The Sooners are one of six Big 12 Conference teams to be selected for the NCAA Tournament, joined by Baylor, Texas, West Virginia, Kansas State and Iowa State.

Ticket for the NCAA First/Second Round games will be available through the University of Washington. Tickets information can be found here.
