NORMAN – Eight University of Oklahoma women’s basketball players were selected to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Team on Thursday, the conference office announced.

Shaya Kellogg, Maddie Manning, Gabbi Ortiz, Vionise Pierre-Louis, LaNesia Williams and Derica Wyatt were all selected to the 35-member first team list (includes student-athletes who have recorded 3.20 or better GPA).

Ortiz was recognized as one of five Big 12 players to earn a 4.00 GPA, while the honors for Manning and Wyatt marked their third straight first team selection.

Peyton Little and McKenna Treece were two of 16 players in the league named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team (3.00 to 3.19 GPA).

Oklahoma, Iowa State and Kansas State led the Big 12 with eight selections apiece.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. First team honorees have a 3.20 GPA or higher and second team members have a GPA of 3.00-3.19.

The 19th-ranked Sooners, who are 20-6 overall and 11-3 in Big 12 play, return home Saturday to face No. 8 Texas at 1 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. Saturday’s contest marks OU’s annual “Play4Kay” game to benefit cancer research. Tickets are available here.
