NORMAN –  University of Oklahoma women’s tennis coach Audra Cohen announced the hiring of Amy Sargeant as an assistant coach on Friday.

“I'm very excited to add Amy to our Sooner Family,” Cohen said. “As a player at Florida State, she was a tenacious competitor with a sharp, tactical understanding of the game. Now as a coach, she is a fervent motivator and leader. I have no doubt Amy will have a positive impact on these young women and the culture of our program at Oklahoma.”

Sargeant spent last season as an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico, helping the Lobos to a 15-7 record and 5-0 mark against Mountain West Conference opponents. The Lobos finished the season ranked No. 64 in the ITA final team rankings. Under Sargeant’s guidance, New Mexico’s doubles tandem of Rachana Bhat and Andrea LeBlanc were tabbed No. 63 in the final ITA release.

“First, I would like to thank Audra Cohen and the athletics administration for the opportunity to join the staff at the University of Oklahoma,” Sargeant said. “Audra's tennis background is second to none, and I am excited to assist in her development of the program in the coming seasons. The University of Oklahoma has a tradition of excellence, and I look forward to hitting the court and helping to take the program to new heights.”

Sargeant lettered four years at Florida State, helping the Seminoles to the 2013 ACC Championship during her senior season. She earned team MVP honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013. As a senior, she became the fifth player in Florida State history to record 30 singles wins in a season, posting a 30-7 mark.

Her .811 winning percentage during her final collegiate season ranks as the second-best mark in FSU single-season history. During her four years at Florida State, Sargeant guided the Seminoles to four straight NCAA Tournament berths from 2010-13.

Off the court, Sargeant excelled in the classroom and was a member of the ACC Honor Roll from 2011-13. She was also an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2012 and 2013, while earning the 2013 the ITA Southeast Region Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship.

After graduating with her degree in sports management and administration in 2013, Sargeant served as a volunteer assistant for two seasons with the Seminoles.
