NORMAN, Okla. - The College Gymnastics Association named nine members of the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team to its list of 2014 Academic Scholar-Athletes.
Presten Ellsworth, Thao Hoang, Ethan Jose, Alec Robin and Jacoby Rubin were named to the First Team and Dylan Akers, Daniel Berardini, Allen Bower and Michael Squires were named to the Second Team.
The College Gymnastics Association has also honored 77 individual gymnasts as 2014 first team Scholar-Athletes for attaining at least a 3.50 grade point average and 63 second team All-American Scholar-Athletes for attaining a grade point.
As a team, Oklahoma recorded the eighth best GPA in the nation with a mark of 3.097, jumping up seven spots from 15th place the year before.
“I’m pleased to see the program’s GPA above the 3.0 level and very proud of our individual academic all Americans who finished with GPS’s above 3.5,” said head coach Mark Williams
Berardini and Squires have now been named both All-Americans after their performances in the NCAA Championships and Scholar Athletes. Berardini earned All-America status with a fourth place finish on the parallel bars and eighth on the high bar.
