NORMAN, Okla.-- University of Oklahoma head women’s tennis coach David Mullins announced today the signing of Simran Sethi to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Sooners beginning in the spring of 2015.
“Simran is one of the most accomplished junior players we have ever recruited at OU,” Mullins said. “Her experiences will translate well in to making an immediate impact on our lineup in singles and doubles. She is a very athletic player that has a lot of options in her game to hurt her opponents.”
As she is not due to graduate high school until November, Sethi will join the Sooners from New Dehli, India, in January of 2015 when the spring season begins.
Sethi has competed in Junior Wimbledon, the French Open and the Australian Open. Her highest junior International Tennis Federation ranking was 102 and her highest Women’s Tennis Association ranking was 885.
“Simran is eager to play at the next level after college and we look forward to helping her with her goals these next four years. She had a lot of great choices as to where to take her talents and we feel very fortunate that she has chosen OU to play her college tennis.”
Sethi represents the sixth foreign country on the Sooners' roster. Next season, the women’s tennis team will also feature student athletes from Japan, England, Scotland, Denmark and Germany.
Sethi will join Christiana Brigante, Malene Stripp, Brooke Withrow and Yuriko “Lily” Miyazaki, who filed NLIs in November 2013 and April 2014 as newcomers to the 2014-15 OU women’s tennis team.
