NORMAN, Okla.—Sooners Guillermo Alcorta, Dane Webb and Axel Alvarez were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with the announcement of their 2014 All-All America Teams for NCAA Division 1 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Thursday.
The trio make up the third, fourth and fifth Sooners to be named All-Americans in singles following Costin Paval (2012) and Oliver Lorin (1987, 1988).
Webb became a two-time All-American with the honor as he was named to the 2012 doubles team with partner Paval.
The junior from Richardson, Texas advanced to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships and compiled a 33-8 record in singles play. Webb finished the year ranked 27th nationally and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team at No. 3 singles.
Alcorta finished his senior campaign with a 28-9 record in singles play. He was named the 2014 ITA Central Region Senior Player of the Year and finished ranked No. 3 nationally.
The All-American honor is added to the list of accolades Alcorta has accumulated, including the 2013 Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player, the 2012 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, and 2012 ITA Central Region Player to Watch.
Alvarez finished his sophomore season with a 37-8 record and ranked sixth nationally. The first time All-American adds the honor to his 2012 ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year and Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Year honors.
