Double Duty All-Americans
June 05, 2014

They are the ones who go the extra mile...and then a few more after that.

They study at spare intervals and work hard every minute, because they know there is a lot of life after NCAA gymnastics ends.

They are the double-duty All-Americans: those who have earned athletic and academic All-America awards in the same season of competition.

In just the last three seasons, Oklahoma has had three such student-athletes: Megan Ferguson (2012), Rebecca Clark (2013) and Lara Albright (2014). Joining the trio in the Oklahoma gymnastics double-duty legacy is Brittney Koncak, who achieved the feat in both 2006 and 2007.

Albright is OU's most recent addition, having captured a spot on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division I At-Large team this week. Albright was a first-team selection, giving OU gymnastics a first-team honoree for the first time since Koncak in 2007.

The award is another line in the litany of academic and athletic accolades Albright has earned in 2014. A native of Carollton, Texas, Albright was a first-team All-American on floor exercise at the 2014 NCAA Championships and helped her squad to the program's first-ever national title on April 19.

In 2014 alone, Albright has been named an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, a Big 12 Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship winner, a Big 12 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award honoree, an Academic All-Big 12 selection and a Michael F. Price College of Business Outstanding Student award winner. She has been accepted to law school and will pursue her J.D. this fall at Southern Methodist University.

Albright joins Ferguson and Clark as dual All-Americans in the past three season. Ferguson earned seven All-America awards during her career at OU, more than any other Oklahoma gymnast. She was named a second-team Academic All-American in 2012 and recently completed her master's degree program at OU.

A third-team Academic All-America selection in 2013, Clark was a regular season All-American in 2014 and will be a senior gymnast for OU in 2015.

The at-large team for the Capital One Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; and bowling, rowing and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
