Head Coach Shayne Lotito

Opening statement:
“We’re really happy to be here. We’re really excited. We know the girls are looking forward to this weekend.”

On building the program:
“We came in as young coaches, the whole entire coaching staff, and really just tried to teach them through our experience. We’d get them out and encourage them and try to show them that we’ll do everything that we were asking them to do and kind of just said our expectations from the very beginning so that they knew what they were. We pushed them, and at first there was a little pushback, but not in a bad way, but they didn’t understand why. As they started to learn more and more, and the girls gave us everything they had every single day, we just kept pushing them because we knew how much potential this team had when we got on here when we watched them play. They had a lot of heart behind it. We told them, ‘The sky’s the limit, and just keep giving this everything you’ve got. We have your back. We care about you. We’re here for you. We’re not doing this for any other reason than to help you be the best we know how.' With that kind of setting the tone for the whole season, they came and said, ‘Well, this is what we want from you guys,” and we had an understanding and did what we could to make sure that happened."

On facing the defending national champion in Oklahoma:
“We’re very excited. The whole team is extremely excited to have this opportunity, and we are going to come out and our goal right now is to compete. That’s what our goal is. I’m not going to say we’re going to take them down. I’m not going to say we’re going to lose, but this team will compete tomorrow.”

On what the strength of her team is:
"Each other. They get each other going, basically. I can probably tell you from the top of our lineup to the bottom of our lineup to our girls on the bench, they can look each other in the eye, and each of them is giving everything they have just for each other. That’s who they’re playing for right now. They’re not playing for me. They’re not playing for Bryant. They are playing for each other, and that’s why I think they’re such a strong team. They really care about each other. They’re a family, and that’s how they’ve played all year.”

On if Oklahoma is an easier team to scout because it is well-known:
“No, not at all. They have a lot of very tight relationships, so they are actually very hard to scout except by watching video. Every team plays a team differently, so it’s hard to really say how they’re going to come out against us, but like Aubrey (Mable) said, we’re going to come out playing our game. They have a great offensive team, so our pitching staff really knows that they need to be on their game and work around the strike zone, minimize missed pitches and do the best that they can to keep it in the infield or no farther than the outfield.”

On if she’s been to Oklahoma:
“I was here when I was in high school. I competed in the Hall of Fame tournament, so I’ve been here before.”

On the tournament experience:
“We’ve talked to the girls about just making sure that they’re enjoying the moment. Don’t get overwhelmed by it, embrace it, because it’s an awesome experience, and it’s not one that many get. That’s how the team is kind of coming into this weekend and how they feel about the whole situation. They jumped for joy when they found out where they were going, so that’s always a good sign.”

Sophomore Pitcher Elle Madsen

On facing Oklahoma:
“Obviously we know they have big hitters coming in. Our pitching staff has really been focusing on getting pinpoint positions with the ball so they don’t get those big hits that they’re known for.”

On if she feels pressure to produce since she is the team’s ace and leading hitter:
“There’s not a lot of pressure coming in here. I know my team’s got my back. I fully trust in them. Obviously we are playing the defending national champions, but that’s not all we’re thinking about. We’re thinking about each and every at bat, each and every pitch. We’re not thinking, ‘Oh my gosh. This is Oklahoma.’ I don’t feel much pressure at all. I know I have to be pinpoint accurate with every pitch and have focused at bats every at bat.”

On the tournament experience:
“We’re just really excited about the opportunity to come here and play Oklahoma. We wanted to go somewhere big, and nowhere better than to come play the defending national champion, so we’re excited.”

Senior Shortstop Aubrey Mable

On facing Oklahoma:
“For us, we just go out there and every team is the same. It doesn’t matter what name is written across the front of their uniforms as long as we can stay within ourselves and play our game, I agree with coach that we are going to go out there and compete with them.”

On if she’s been to Oklahoma:
“I’ve been here when I was younger playing tournaments around the time of the World Series. I’ve actually been here to watch the World Series before, maybe in 2010.”

On the tournament experience:
“As a senior, this is something that we’ve definitely been working for for the past four years. We had that reclassification period where we weren’t tournament eligible, so for the seven seniors, this is exactly the reason we came to Bryant. We knew we were going to have an awesome opportunity once we were eligible. Watching that show was so exciting. We couldn’t be happier with our draw. We are extremely excited for the opportunity.”
