NORMAN, Okla.—The 18th-ranked Oklahoma women’s tennis team makes its fourth NCAA postseason appearance in five years. The Sooners take on No. 55 Wichita State in first round action on Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m. CT at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables, Florida.

Oklahoma (16-6, 6-3 Big 12) faces Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA championships. The teams have met 27 times with OU leading the series 24-3. Oklahoma won the last matchup between the two, 5-2, in 2013. The Shockers (19-6, 8-0 MVC) won their sixth straight MVC Championship to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The winner between the Shockers and Sooners will advance to face the winner of the Boston University/ Miami matchup. The second round match will take place Saturday, May 10 at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Sweet Sixteen hosted by the University of Georgia.

OU heads to the NCAA Championships for just the ninth time in school history. The Sooners will look to become the ninth OU squad to win at least 18 matches in a season with wins this weekend.

OU has beaten 12 nationally-ranked opponents, shut out five opponents and went 8-5 on the road.

The Sooners are led in singles by nationally-ranked Whitney Ritchie. The senior, ranked No. 68 in the country, has compiled an 18-3 overall record with a flawless 11-0 record at the No. 2 spot. Ritchie and doubles partner Mia Lancaster also lead the team with a 14-4 record at the No. 1 spot.

Oklahoma has won the doubles point in 17 of 21 matches (.809) and won a combined 40 of 57 doubles matches (.701).

In singles, the Sooners have won a combined 82 of 126 singles matches (.650) and have won 58 of those 82 in straight-sets (.707). Four of the six members of OU’s singles lineup boast records of .600 or better.
