NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma baseball team dropped its final home game of the season to Baylor, 10-5, on Sunday afternoon in front on 1,175 at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners are now 26-23 overall and 6-12 in the Big 12. The Bears improved to 22-27 and 7-13.

“Credit their kid Tolson,” said OU head coach Pete Hughes. “That kid pitched to contact. He gave up his hits, but he grinded it out for them and set up their bullpen.”

Baylor jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a two-out rally in the top of the first leading to a three-run home run by left fielder Grayson Porter. Oklahoma came back with two runs in the bottom half and two more in the second. With runners on the corners and no outs in the second, senior second baseman Hector Lorenzana (San Diego, Calif.) hit into a fielder’s choice that drove in the game-tying run. Sophomore center fielder Craig Aikin (Coppell, Texas) then doubled to move Lorenzana to third, who would score the go-ahead run on a groundout to the right side from redshirt-junior right fielder Taylor Alspaugh (Broken Arrow, Okla.).

The Bears immediately came back for two runs in the third to take the lead for good. Catcher Matt Menard tied the game with a double to left-center and Porter lifted a sacrifice-fly to put Baylor back in front.

In the fourth, the Bears loaded the bases with nobody out to chase sophomore right-hander starter Ralph Garza Jr. (New Braunfels, Texas). All three runs would come around to score and the Sooners trailed 8-4. Lorenzana led off the bottom half with a double off the wall in left and scored on a single by Aikin, but three straight force outs thwarted any chance of a threat to cut further into the deficit.

Garza (5-3) allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks in three-plus innings of work. Right-hander Drew Tolson (3-5) worked six-plus innings and scattered 10 hits and three walks, yielding five runs in the win.

Porter finished the game 2-for-4 with six RBI, while right fielder Adam Toth went 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

For Oklahoma, Aikin and freshman first baseman Austin O’Brien (Owasso, Okla.) each went 3-for-5.

The Sooners are off in the midweek and return to action Friday, May 9 at TCU.
