Pendley tripled twice to tie a school record and drove in five runs. She finished 2-4 at the plate with two runs scored. She hit a bases-loaded triple in the second inning and added a two-run triple in the fifth. In addition, she threw one inning for relief with one strikeout.

NORMAN, Okla. – Junior Shelby Pendley tied a school record with two triples and drove in five runs as No. 17/12 Oklahoma (38-10) completed a doubleheader sweep of UAB (29-22) with an 8-4 win Saturday. With the victory, OU’s winning streak in non-conference games extends to nine.

Pendley hit a three-run triple in the second inning and added another triple in the fourth that scored two runs. It marks the ninth time in program history that an OU player tripled twice in a game. Most recently, Amber Spaulding did it against Oklahoma State on May 11, 2006.

The triples were the first two of the season for Pendley and the second and third of her career. Her five runs driven in were the second highest output of the season, trailing only a school-record 10 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 28.

Like in game one, Oklahoma fell behind early but had a quick answer.

UAB scored twice in the first inning as Ashley Johnson put down a squeeze bunt for a run and Caitlin Attfield added an RBI single.

Oklahoma scored seven runs in the second inning of game one, and the Sooners nearly matched that with a five-run outburst in game two.

Junior Georgia Casey led off with a walk and took second on sophomore Whitney Ellis’ single to center field. Two outs later, junior Lauren Chamberlain walked to fill the bases. Senior Destinee Martinez then hit an infield single to third base to get OU on the board.

Pendley stepped in next and hit a triple off the wall in center field. As Pendley raced for third, the throw from Johnson in center field went into the Oklahoma dugout for an error, and it brought Pendley home to make it 5-2.

“In both games I don’t think we started very strong,” OU head coach Patty Gasso said. “What I love about this team is that when you score on them, they answer. That is very difficult to do, and they do it almost every time. And that is to completely take the game back in their hands, and I love that about this team.”

Oklahoma added three more runs in the fourth.

Junior Callie Parsons led off with a single, while Chamberlain reached on her second walk of the game. After Parsons was forced out at third base, Pendley tied the school record with a triple to the wall in left field, extending OU’s lead to 7-2. Casey added Oklahoma’s final run when she lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing home Pendley.

Sophomore Kelsey Stevens got the win for the Sooners, moving her record to 28-7 on the season. She allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts before yielding to Casey and Pendley for the final two innings.

Each relief pitcher allowed a run and a walk in one inning of work. Casey allowed three hits, while Pendley surrendered one and struck out one.
