NORMAN, Okla. – One week after hosting its only outdoor meet of the season, representatives from OU’s track and field teams head west this weekend for the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. This weekend's meet is the next to last of the 2014 outdoor regular season.

Competition for the two-day meet begins on Friday at 8:30 a.m. (PDT) with the women’s hammer throw and the men follow at 10:30 a.m. Running events on Friday begin at  12:30 p.m. Events Saturday begin with the women’s javelin at 10 a.m. (PDT) and events on the track begin with preliminary women’s 100-meter hurdles starting at 12:40 p.m.

The meet is split into two sections, an Open meet on Friday and the Challenge meet on Saturday. The Open is non-scoring, with the exception of the 3000-meter steeplechase, the 5000-meter run, the hammer and the javelin, events that are not scheduled on Saturday.

Hosted by the University of California, entrants from 17 four-year universities as well as select clubs around the country will be competing in the Open and Challenge portions of the meet. The Challenge on Saturday is a four-way scoring meet that includes Cal, Utah State, Oklahoma and the 2014 Mountain West Indoor champions (both men and women), New Mexico.

Cal’s men’s team is currently ranked first in the Track & Field News Dual Rankings, and 25th in the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings. In the past the Brutus Hamilton has not been a scoring meet, which is the largest change of this historic meet.

The Sooners used last Saturday’s meet in Norman as an opportunity to have the entire team competing together and the results were positives. One meet and two school records were set and 11 Sooners added their names to the all-time list or improved their position on that list.

Sooner event winners at the 45th annual John Jacobs Invitational included Cessily Jomes, women’s 100; Geo Tamez-Reyna, women’s 100-meter hurdles; women’s 1600-meter relay; Liz Herrs, women’s javelin; Allen Eke, men’s 800; Biya Simbassa, men’s 3000; Matthias Wicks, men’s 110-meter hurdles; Brandon Doughty, men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase; Garrison LeRock, men’s high jump; Everette Favor, men’s pole vault; Nolan Hay, men’s long jump; Hayden McClain, men’s triple jump; Austin Perry, men’s shot put; and Tyler Renton, men’s javelin.

Live results for the Brutus Hamilton will be posted on Record Timing. Recaps will be posted at the end of each day’s competition on
