NORMAN, Okla. – The 18th-ranked Oklahoma women’s tennis team opens the 2014 Big 12 Championship at the No. 5 seed on Friday, April 25, against fourth-seeded Texas Tech at 12 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

Oklahoma (16-5, 6-3 Big 12) won its final regular season match against Oklahoma State, 4-3, Saturday, April 19, to finish in a three-way tie for third place with Texas and Texas Tech.

Texas Tech (16-7, 6-3) closed out its season with a 6-1 win over Kansas State, Sunday, April 13, in Lubbock. The last matchup between the Sooners and Red Raiders resulted in a 5-2 victory for Texas Tech on Friday, March 21 in Norman.

“Last time around, Whitney Ritchie was out with the stomach flu and everyone said with her in the lineup, we win,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “This is our chance to prove that. With Ritchie back in, we have the chance to prove we are the better team. It’s going to be a really tough matchup.”

The winner of the Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech match will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m.
