OU Finishes Weekend with Wins at Natoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight all claimed wins during two days of competition at the Lake Natoma Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Gold River, Calif.

Other teams that competed included No. 1 Cal, No. 4 USC, No. 6 Brown, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 20 San Diego, in addition to Sacramento State and Kansas.

On Sunday, the varsity eight boats each claimed a win in races against Kansas and Sacramento State. The 1V8 finished in 6:45.0 to beat second-place Kansas by five seconds and the 2V8 finished in 6:54.4, three seconds ahead of the Jayhawks.

Also on Sunday, the varsity four placed second behind Kansas (7:35.3) with a time of 7:41.0. In the first race of the day, the novice eight took third in 7:12.8 behind No. 1 Cal (7:00.2) and Kansas (7:05.8) but ahead of USC (7:18.20).

Day 1 - Saturday

On the first day of competition, the Sooner novice eight made a statement, winning their race to knock off No. 1 Cal and No. 4 USC in the afternoon session with a time of 7:25.10. USC finished in 7:26.40 while Cal came in at 7:36.50.

The Sooner varsity four finished third to No. 6 Brown and No. 20 San Diego with a time of 7:57.60. Both the varsity eight (6:59.20) and second varsity eight (7:12.80) also came in third to the Bears and the Toreros.  

In the Saturday morning session, OU competed against boats from No. 4 USC and No. 9 Notre Dame, taking third in all four races. The varsity eight finished in 6:49.80 while the second varsity eight came in at 6:53.80.

The varsity four timed in at 7:50.00 and the second varsity four finished behind USC and No. 7 Stanford and ahead of Sacramento State with a time of 7:53.10.
