Norman, Okla.--No. 5 Oklahoma swept No. 37 Texas Tech 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

“I think we’re playing the best tennis we’ve played since mid February,” head coach John Roddick said. “We’re getting better down low and we’re in a pretty good spot. We still have to get better between now and the end of May, but we’re doing the right things.”

Playing in his last home match, senior Guillermo Alcorta finished strong with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory over Hugo Dojas. Junior Dane Webb followed by putting away Francisco Zambon 6-4, 6-2.

Andrew Harris clinched the match for the Sooners, topping Maxijme Hinnisdaels 6-3, 6-4.

Axel Alvarez, Alex Ghilea and Austin Siegel all forced third sets to earn their singles points.

Despite dropping his first set 3-6, Alvarez came back to prevail over Felipe Soares 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). Alex Ghilea also had a battle in his match. He fell behind 3-6 in the first set, but fought back to beat Johann Willems 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (12-10).

Sophomore Austin Siegel closed out the match, ousting Joan Callieau 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3).

OU held strong at doubles, and got the point with wins at the No. 3 and 1 positions.

“We’re playing better at doubles,” Roddick said. “ The things we’ve been working on in doubles have turned around and I liked what I saw.”

Roddick’s team closes out its regular season Sunday, April 20, when they travel to Stillwater, Okla., to face Oklahoma State.
