NORMAN, Okla. -- The 10th-ranked University of Oklahoma women’s golf team finished Friday’s opening round of the 54-hole PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., in 11th place. The elite 15-team event is being played at the 6,223-yard, par-72 ASU Karsten Golf Course.

The Sooners, who were in fifth place two-thirds of the way through the day, finished with an 8-over-par 296. No. 11 Washington tops the leaderboard and leads OU by 12 strokes after shooting a 284 (-4). No. 6 Arizona State is in second place after shooting a 287 (-1), while No. 7 South Carolina and No. 9 Arizona are tied for third after each logged an even-par 288.

Anne-Catherine Tanguay leads the Sooners through the first round, shooting a 2-under 70. The senior, who carded a 2-under 33 on the front nine, is tied for sixth place individually out of 81 competitors. Tanguay is just two shots out of the lead.

OU senior Emily Collins shot an even-par 72 on the day. Collins, like Tanguay, registered a team-high five birdies. She is tied for 20th place.

Sooner freshman Alexandra Kaui logged an opening-round 75 (+3) and is tied for 40th place. She was at even par through 14 holes but bogeyed No. 15 and double-bogeyed No. 18.

OU’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil and Kaitlyn Rohrback each shot a first-round 79 (+7). The senior duo is tied for 68th place individually.

Oklahoma head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she is happy with her team’s progress since its last tournament.

“We played better than we have the last few times out,” Drouin-Luttrell said of Friday’s round. “We need to adjust to the firm greens and play our game. There is a lot of golf left, and we believe anything can happen.”

Teams will tee off for round two Saturday at 10 a.m. CT. Live stats can be found at
