Sooners Back to the Course in Arizona
April 03, 2014

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 10th-ranked University of Oklahoma women’s golf team is traveling to Tempe, Ariz. this weekend for the 2014 PING/ASU Invitational. The stout 15-team field -- nine teams are ranked in Golfweek’s top 12 -- will play Friday-Sunday (April 4-6) at the 6,223-yard, par-72 ASU Karsten Golf Course.

The Sooners, who are also ranked No. 5 nationally by Golfstat, are coming off a ninth-place finish at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., last month, logging a three-round 893 (+53) at the 14-team event. Senior Chirapat Jao-Javanil led OU with a 220 (+10), which tied for 17th place.

OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she hopes to use PING/ASU Invitational as a springboard for postseason play.

“We’re coming up on the end of the season here,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “For some of our girls, the end of their careers is approaching and there’s a lot for them to look forward to going into these next several weeks. Hopefully they can build some momentum with how they play this weekend and use it going into the Big 12 Championship and NCAA postseason.”

Teams will start play Friday at 10 a.m. CT.
