NORMAN, Okla. -- Head coach Bob Stoops invited University of Oklahoma students to participate in OU Football Student Day by attending the team portion of practice at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 10. The first 500 students will receive a free hot dog and drink. While supplies last, all remaining hot dogs and drinks will be available for 50 cents.
Stoops will be giving OU students a sneak preview of what will take place at the OU Spring Game presented by U.S. Fleet Tracking on April 12. At OU Football Student Day, eight students (two winners per quarter) will be selected at random to join the Sooners’ as “student coaches” on the field for the OU Spring Game. These winners will receive game day coaching gear for the event and will be able to run from the sideline onto the field to deliver a play into the huddle. Other prizes will include Sooner gear like helmets, footballs and jerseys. Raffle tickets will be handed out under the west side of stadium beginning at 4 p.m. on OU Football Student Day.
OU students (with current ID) are invited to attend the final portion of practice on April 10 with gates opening at 5 p.m. For the open portion of practice, Coach Stoops will have an open microphone, talking through all on-field activities. At the conclusion of practice, students will be invited onto the field to participate in drills, meet and take pictures with student athletes (no autographs) and have a chance to kick a field goal.
Kickoff for the OU Spring Game is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. The day’s festivities begin at 8 a.m. with the annual OU Spring Sale in McCasland Fieldhouse. At 10 a.m. the Sooner Jr. Kids Zone opens in the McCasland Fieldhouse parking lot with free kids’ carnival rides. The third annual Big Boomer BBQ kicks off at noon in the Brooks parking lot, directly east of the McCasland Fieldhouse parking lot. A live DJ will be entertaining on the main stage with a pregame pep rally featuring OU Spirit and the Pride of Oklahoma.
Live music inside the stadium for the OU Spring Game will be provided by the Pride of Oklahoma and “My So Called Band,” a Norman-based group that specializes in ‘90s cover songs. OU students are encouraged to join the team on the field following the conclusion of the game to interact with student-athletes during a free one-hour postgame concert (no autographs permitted). Other fans will be encouraged to remain in their seats to enjoy the concert.
OU Football season ticket holders can reserve their free tickets for the contest. Season ticket holders are eligible to request the same number of seats for the OU Spring Game as they have for regular season games.
