NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team shot a final-round 301 (+21) Sunday and finished in ninth place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Sooners logged a three-round 893 (+53) at the par-70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Oklahoma was tied for sixth place after Friday’s first round and dropped to eighth entering Sunday’s third round. No. 12 Arizona won the tournament by one stroke over No. 37 Kent State. Arizona finished with an 866 (+26). No. 30 Ohio State took third place at +35.
Senior Chirapat Jao-Javanil led the Sooners in the tournament, finishing tied for 17th place out of 81 competitors with a 220 (+10). Jao-Javanil recorded her best score in Sunday’s finale round, shooting an even-par 70.
Freshman Alexandra Kaui and senior Anne-Catherine Tanguay each recorded a third-round 77 (+7). Kaui tied for 32nd place with a 54-hole 223 (+13). Tanguay finished one shot behind in 35th place.
Senior Emily Collins shot a 226 (+16) on the weekend and tied for 43rd place. Senior Kaitlyn Rohrback rounded out the Sooners’ team scoring, logging a 238 (+28) and placing 72nd.
OU’s Maggie Neece competed as an individual and unattached from team scoring. The freshman carded a 225 (+15) and tied for 36th place. It was her best career finish in three events. Her first-day 72 marked her lowest collegiate round.
The Sooners will return to action April 4-6 when they travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the Ping ASU Women’s Golf Invitational.
