NORMAN, Okla. -- The seventh-ranked University of Oklahoma women’s golf team fell two spots after Saturday’s second round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Sooners carded a second-day 297 (+17) and are in eighth place with one round remaining.
OU stands at +32 at the 6,002-yard, par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course. No. 37 Kent State leads the 14-team field at 15 over par. Ohio State is in second place at +20 while No. 12 Arizona, No. 29 Virginia and No. 32 Texas A&M are tied for third place at +21.
Alexandra Kaui recorded a second-round 72 (+2) and leads the Sooners with her two-round 146 (+6). The freshman is tied for 21st place out of 81 competitors.
OU Senior Anne-Catherine Tanguay is one stroke behind Kaui, totaling a 7-over 147. She carded a 75 (+5) on the day and is tied for 28th place.
Kaitlyn Rohrback, another senior, turned in a second-day 80 (+10) and is tied for 67th with a two-round 157 (+17).
OU Freshman Maggie Neece is competing as an individual (unattached from team scoring) and is tied for 21st place at +6. She shot a 4-over 74 Saturday after her opening round 72.
Sooner head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she believes her team can rally in Sunday’s final round.
“Anything can happen tomorrow,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We are definitely capable of playing well to climb up the leaderboard.”
