NORMAN, Okla. -- After 36 holes at the Border Olympics, the 14th-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team holds a three-stroke lead. The tournament is being played at the 7,125-yard, par-72 Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.

The Sooners started the day by shooting a 289 (+1) before firing an 8-under 280 in Friday's second round. Their two-round total is a 569 (-7), placing them ahead of Big 12 foe and 26th-ranked Baylor, who has a score of 572 (-4). Host and No. 10 Houston is in third with a 2-over 578, while Louisiana-Monroe sits in fourth with an 8-over 584. Lamar rounds out the top five with a 589 (+13).

"We finished strong today, which is something we have struggled with recently," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "I was proud of our guys for hanging tough all day, and we put ourselves in a good spot for tomorrow."

Two Sooners sit within the top five on the individual leaderboard, led by Michael Gellerman, who shares second place with a two-round 139 (-4). The junior shot a 1-under 71 before carding a 68 (-4), matching his season low. Gellerman totaled eight birdies for the 36 holes and eagled the par-5 hole No. 17 in the second round.

Junior Charlie Saxon is tied for fifth place after recording a 73 (+1) and 69 (-3) to total a two-round 142 (-2). In the second round, Saxon pocketed a birdie on the par-5 hole No. 9.

With 2-over 146s, freshman Max McGreevy and senior Eduardo Castiello share 14th place. McGreevy shot a 2-under 70 for the first 18 holes followed by 4-over 76. Castiello, who is competing as an individual, tallied OU's biggest improvement between the two rounds, shooting a 78 (+10) and a 68 (-4) on Friday. He shot nine birdies on the day.

One stroke behind McGreevy and Castiello is Michael Schoolcraft with a 147 (+3). The senior posted scores of 75 (+3) and 72 (E) for the first two rounds to tie for 22nd place.

Tied for 27th place with scores of 148 (+4) are sophomore Beau Titsworth and freshman Emilio Maurer, who is participating in the tournament as an individual. Titsworth shot a 77 (+5) and 71 (-1) on Friday, while Maurer recorded a 76 (+4) and 72 (E).
