NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma head volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo announced earlier this week that his team will play six matches in Europe over the course of 11 days from May 23 to June 2. The trip will take the Sooners through the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia and Italy.
The trip, which is the first of its kind for the OU volleyball team, will provide a great cultural experience says Restrepo.
“It will also provide great opportunity to get together and have 10 extra days of practice and play very strong competition against some junior national teams and some very tough club teams,” he said. “It is also a great opportunity for all of our young players to mesh and build chemistry and friendships, while also learning about other countries.”
The Sooners will arrive in Prague on May 23 and will face local club team Olympia Praha on May 24, followed by a match against the Czech JNT on May 25. After a quick stop in Vienna, Oklahoma heads to Maribor on May 26. There, the Sooners take on Slovenia JNT on May 27 and Nova KBM on May 28.
Oklahoma will spend one night in Venice before heading to Milan for its final two matches against Italy JNT on May 31 and June 1.
In an effort to fundraise for their trip, the Sooners will host the Sixth Annual Oklahoma Volleyball Golf Tournament on April 28. The golf fundraiser will be held at The Trails Golf Club in Norman.
